Supergrit takes its name from the sandpaper that touches every object before it leaves the shop. Grit turns a rough edge into a considered one, and that transformation is our entire pursuit.

About

Supergrit takes its name from the sandpaper that touches every object before it leaves the shop. Grit turns a rough edge into a considered one, and that transformation is our entire pursuit.

Craft

Every piece is hand-built in small batches from the highest grade birch plywood and finished the way we’re named — sanded down, deliberate, considered. A piece we make once and a piece we make fifty times get the same attention.

Tension

We embrace the friction between irregular forms and the straight lines of a modern room. That contrast is beautiful, not something to smooth over: our pieces stand out without needing an entire room built around them. Our pieces are playful and unique, yet flexible enough to harmonize with 90s-minimalism, a Memphis-drenched apartment, a cozy mid-century room, or raw contemporary architecture.

Our Vision

A future where beautiful, well-made furniture is simply how people furnish a home or office, not a luxury reserved for the deepest budgets.

Origin

Supergrit Studio was founded by Troy Mock in 2021. What started as a passion project has grown into a life pursuit.  At the start, I was climbing onto the fire escape of my tiny Brooklyn Heights apt so I could sand wood. Slowly, I started to find my design style, while simultaneously refining the quiet mechanical details of my work.

The studio was previously named formless furniture. In 2026, we rebranded to Supergrit Studio to more closely align with our vision.
